"A safer, stronger, more sustainable Territory"
Chansey Paech is a passionate advocate for the people of Central Australia and the remote communities of the Northern Territory. Representing the bush electorate of Gwoja, Chansey brings a deep commitment to fostering equality, cultural respect, and sustainable development across the region.
He stands as the first openly gay Indigenous member of an Australian parliament, a milestone that continues to inspire others to embrace diversity and inclusivity.
Born and raised in Alice Springs/Mparntwe, Chansey's upbringing was steeped in the traditions, culture and resilience of his community. These values have driven his political career and advocacy work, particularly in areas of justice reform, housing, and social equity.
Chansey served as the Attorney-General for the Northern Territory during the last two years of his time in government, where he spearheaded significant reforms in the justice system, including expanding alternatives to incarceration, enhancing behavioural programs in correctional facilities, and strengthening laws to protect victims of domestic and family violence.
In his current role as a Shadow Minister, Chansey is passionate about building a safer, stronger, more sustainable Territory. He remains an outspoken critic of policies that neglect the needs of the Northern Territory’s most vulnerable populations, consistently advocating for tangible change and better resource allocation.
Whether addressing infrastructure gaps, championing Indigenous rights, or fostering economic opportunities, Chansey’s work reflects his unwavering dedication to uplifting his community and building a more inclusive and equitable future for all Australians.
