The Member for Arnhem since August 2016, Selena has been a champion for better education, health and housing outcomes for all Territorians. 

 

Selena was born and bred in the Territory. Her mother is Nunggubuyu from Numbulwar and Wanindilyakwa from Groote Eylandt, and her father is a second-generation Australian of Estonian, Irish and South African origin born in Sydney. Selena speaks English, Kriol and some of the Wubuy language of Numbulwar.

 

Selena holds a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) graduating from the University of Queensland as Valedictorian in 2010 before starting her teaching career in the NT.

In the early days of her teaching career, she taught practical business skills in a remote community school, preparing students for real employment opportunities in their own community or further afield.

 

Before becoming Opposition Leader in September 2024, Selena held various ministerial portfolios including Health, Education, Corporate and Digital Development, Local Decision Making, Parks and Rangers, Public Employment, Attorney-General and Justice and Remote Housing and Homelands.

 

Selena is deeply committed to making the Northern Territory an even better place for all Territorians. She strongly believes Territorians should have access to quality services no matter where they live and is a passionate advocate for making sure Territory children get the best start in life and families are supported to thrive.
