Dheran Young
Member for Daly
Deputy Leader of the Opposition
"Healthy, Thriving Communities"
Dheran was elected to the Northern Territory Parliament in 2021 and previously held the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
A Yaegl man from the northern rivers of NSW, Mr Young has lived in the Northern Territory for over 11 years. He spent four years in the remote community of Wadeye supporting local families and young people as the Regional Development Manager for the Wadeye Football League and then as Manager of the Kardu Darrikardu Namida School Boarding Facility.
During his time as a member of the previous Labor Government, Mr Young was the Chair of the Government’s First Nations Caucus and worked closely with Federal colleagues on closing the gap for Aboriginal Territorians.
He oversaw over $20 million worth of vital road upgrades to his electorate of Daly which spans 5000 square kilometres. Dheran is also a passionate advocate for better housing, health and education outcomes across rural and remote NT.
Mr Young strongly believes the former Labor Government’s co-investments with the Commonwealth Government that will see every Territory school fully funded and $4 billion put into remote housing, as well Local Decision-Making Agreements with communities, will dramatically improve the lives of Territorians in the most disadvantaged parts of Australia.
